The Virginia Board of Education today determined the 2017-18 accreditation status for Gainesboro Elementary School and Frederick County Middle School to be Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School. That status was assigned during today’s Board meeting after it was determined both schools are making adequate progress toward meeting state standards for full accreditation.

Under Virginia's school accountability regulations, a school that has not earned full accreditation for three consecutive years and fails to meet state accreditation standards for a fourth consecutive year can apply for a rating of Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School provided the local school board agrees to reconstitute the school's leadership, staff, governance or student population. Frederick County Middle School was reconstituted for the 2016-17 school year while Gainesboro Elementary School was reconstituted for the 2017-18 school year. Both schools can retain the status of Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School for up to three years if they are making acceptable progress toward being fully accredited.

Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “Both Frederick County Middle School and Gainesboro Elementary School are continuing to make progress toward becoming fully accredited. I’m pleased that the State Board of Education has recognized the progress being made at both schools and assigned them with an accreditation rating of Partially Accredited: Reconsitituted School. The instructional practices and student supports we have been implementing are positively impacting student growth as is evidenced by our division moving from having nine schools fully accredited to 13 over the past four years. Over the same period, we’ve gone from having five Focus Schools to none. As staff remains relentlessly focused on using researched-based practices to enhance student achievement, I’m confident both Frederick County Middle School and Gainesboro Elementary School will continue making progress toward full accreditation.”

Schools rated Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School will participate in technical assistance sessions provided by the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of School Improvement (OSI). OSI technical improvement for the 2017-18 school year will focus on the implementation of essential actions identified as part of continuous improvement planning. In addition, schools rated Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School will have triannual meetings with OSI staff and access to additional supports.
