The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Frederick County Public Schools a Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation during the
2017-18 budget year.  ASBO International’s MBA program promotes and recognizes the best budget presentation practices in school districts.  Frederick County Public Schools has received a Meritorious Budget Award from ASBO for five straight years.  The award is presented to school districts that have met or exceeded the criteria for the award which are designed to guide school business officials toward producing a quality school budget presentation.

To be considered for the award, Frederick County Public Schools submitted the School Board Approved Budget for FY18 to undergo a rigorous review based on the stringent criteria established by the MBA program. The review was completed by a team of professional auditors who have received additional MBA criteria-specific training from ASBO.

ASBO International Executive Director John Musso says, “School business officials can enhance their budget presentation just by applying for a Meritorious Budget Award.  The application process helps school officials create an easy-to-read, accurate budget document that clearly communicates the district’s goals and objectives and  builds credibility and trust with their community. The award serves as a gold-star designation and promotes continuous improvement.”

Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “It is always an honor to have our budget document receive ASBO’s Meritorious Budget Award.  Preparing a comprehensive budget document that maintains a high level of transparency while presenting information in a format that’s easily understood is a great challenge, but our finance department does an outstanding job in meeting the challenge each year.”
