Frederick County Public Schools has launched a custom mobile app that provides students, parents, staff and members of the community with instant access to a variety of school and division information. The new app is available at no cost from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.

Frederick County Public Schools Coordinator of Policy and Communications Steve Edwards says, “The way individuals access information is changing rapidly and mobile apps have become an important means of delivering and receiving information. Nearly 40 percent of those who visit our school websites do so using a mobile device. By offering a mobile app, we will be better able to deliver important information to students and parents quickly and efficiently.” Edwards adds, “In working to develop the app, we considered what information is most sought after through our websites and made that information readily available through the app. We also solicited feedback from students, parents and some of our principals in an attempt to design an app that would meet the needs of all users.”

Information that will be delivered through the app includes news, school calendars, student grades and assignments through Parent/Student 360, breakfast and lunch menus, bus routes and messages sent via the Frederick County Public Schools’ Rapid Communication System. In addition, users can access MySchoolBucks to pay various school fees or add funds to a student’s cafeteria account through the app. The app also serves as a single point of access for other resources such as school Facebook pages, the school division’s YouTube channel and the eflyer delivery system, Peachjar.

Edwards says, “Each user can adjust their settings within the app and select which schools they follow. In addition, individuals can add events to their personal calendars which will be very helpful to busy families, particularly those who have students attending different schools.”

Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “Our new mobile app is a beneficial tool for our school community and will assist us in keeping key stakeholders connected with what’s happening in our schools in more convenient way. Because so many people use mobile devices, the app will place some of the most requested information about our schools right at the fingertips of students and parents.”
