School Board Meeting Budget Update - April 20, 2017

The School Board reviewed information regarding the proposed FY18 budget during its meeting on April 20, 2017. Executive Director of Finance Patty Camery noted there have been no changes to the proposed budget since it was reviewed by the Board during its meeting on March 21, 2017.  

Mrs. Camery also provided the Board with the proposed salary scales for FY18. She noted the scales are the same as those for FY17, but a step has been added to the top of each scale to allow all employees to receive a step increase in FY18. She added that the proposed budget includes a 2.5 percent increase for academic and athletic supplements. Mrs. Camery noted those supplements have not had an increase since 2009.  

On a 5-1 roll call vote, the Board approved the FY18 budget totaling $200,755,873. The budget includes: School Operating Fund $159,879,495 and 15 additional full-time equivalent positions (FTEs); Capital Project Fund $3,738,287; Debt Service Fund $16,396,229; School Nutrition Services Fund $3,937,383; NREP Operating $5,511,899 and one additional FTE; NREP Textbook Fund $65,000; Consolidated Services Fund $3,600,000 and one additional FTE; Construction Fund NA; Private Purpose Funds $75,000. The School Construction Fund was approved as a carry-forward in the amount that equals the approved original project cost, less expenditures and encumbrances through June 30, 2017. The School Health Insurance Fund and Special Grants Fund were approved for amounts based on cash balances as of June 30, 2017, plus receipts during the fiscal year. Further, all outstanding encumbrances at June 30, 2017, were carried forward and are automatically approved for the 2018 fiscal year.
