12th Elementary School Project Update - August 9, 2017

During its meeting on August 9, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors voted to appropriate $27 million for the construction of the 12th elementary school to be built at Snowden Bridge provided:
  • the school will be a complete facility including all state standard elementary school programs
  • there will be no unresolved VDOT comments or issues
  • the Board of Supervisors will not be asked to appropriate any additional capital funding for the facility for a minimum of 15 years
  • if the capacity of the school is reduced below 600, all support areas will be designed and constructed to support the original capacity
The School Board had requested $28.5 million to construct the school. Since the School Board’s request was not fully funded, the capacity of the school will have to be further reduced and additional cost saving measures considered.
