Early Bird Registration February 4-March 1; Regular Registration March 4-8

Frederick County Public Schools will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2019-20 school year in two phases this year in an effort to make the process more efficient. The parents of rising kindergarten students who currently have other children enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools are being asked to register their student for kindergarten during the early bird registration period from February 4 through March 1. The parents of rising kindergarten students who do not have any children currently attending Frederick County Public Schools should complete the registration process from March 4-8. All parents registering children to attend kindergarten for the first time in August 2019 should complete the registration process at the elementary school their child will attend. Specific registration times for both the early bird and regular registration periods can be acquired by visiting each elementary schools website or contacting the school.

All children who will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2019, must register for kindergarten. Parents wishing to delay their child's attendance for one year must request permission, in writing, from the Superintendent of Schools. It is important for parents to register their children for kindergarten during the registration periods because it allows schools to better plan for the upcoming school year. Parents who are unable to register their children during the designated registration period are encouraged to complete the registration process as soon as possible by visiting the elementary school their child will attend during regular business hours.

Parents registering a child are required by Virginia law to present a certified copy of the pupil's birth record; a certificate of physical examination from a physician or a health department; and a certificate with complete dates for DPT or DTaP, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, and chickenpox immunizations from a physician or health department. Parents should register their child for kindergarten even if all of the above have not been obtained. In addition, parents must present two forms of proof that they reside in the attendance zone in which they are enrolling their student. One form must be a photo ID such as a valid Virginia driver’s license, a valid Virginia ID card from the Department of Motor Vehicles
or a valid passport. The second proof of residency may be a utility bill, a property tax bill, a rental/lease contract or a home purchase contract. Please note that bills may be dated no more than two months prior to the current date. Phone bills and bank statements are not accepted.

For additional information regarding kindergarten registration, individuals may contact Carrie Vivas at 540-662-3888 x88147. Preliminary registration for the preschool program, which may be offered in 2019-20 depending on the availability of funding, will be held March 11-22.
