FCPS Middle School Rezoning

In August 2021, Frederick County Public Schools will be opening the replacement Robert E. Aylor Middle School in Stephens City. To prepare for the opening of the new school, a committee that included community members and school staff worked with national K-12 consultant, Cropper GIS Consulting, to develop a rezoning proposal. The committee held public information meetings and sought feedback from the community throughout the rezoning process. In addition, the School Board held a public hearing on the rezoning proposals before adopting the Middle School Rezoning Plan during its meeting on January 19, 2021. The rezoning plan that was adopted creates an attendance zone for the replacement Aylor Middle School and will help alleviate overcrowding at Admiral Richard E. Byrd and James Wood middle schools. The rezoning, which will take effect at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, does not impact current elementary and high school attendance zones. Learn more about the rezoning process.
