Early College Scholars Program

Students may earn the Governor’s Early College Scholars Seal and Certificate if they meet the following criteria:
  • Earn an Advanced Studies Diploma with the Governor’s Seal
  • Earn at least 15 transferable college credits while enrolled in high school by:
    • Completing dual enrollment/dual credit courses with a grade of “C” or higher
    • Completing Advanced Placement courses and scoring a “3” or higher on the AP exam
    • Earning college credits by passing College Level Examination Program (CLEP) examinations
    • Completing college level courses and documenting credit awarded
  • Apply and be accepted to a college or university
Students who have a signed Early College Scholars Agreement may be eligible to take certain AP courses through the Virginia Virtual Advanced Placement School. Students who have scheduling conflicts with Advanced Placement courses may also use the Virginia Virtual Advanced Placement School to earn credit. If students have signed an Early College Scholars Agreement, the Advanced Placement test for any course taken through the Virginia Virtual Advanced Placement School will be paid for by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
