Middle School Rezoning

In an effort to address overcrowding and enrollment growth at Frederick County’s four middle schools, middle school attendance zone changes will be implemented in two phases. The first middle school attendance zone change will take effect in the 2019-20 school year and impact Frederick County and James Wood middle schools. The Frederick County School Board approved the Middle School Rezoning Committee’s recommended rezoning plan for Frederick County and James Wood middle schools during its meeting on February 5, 2019. The committee developed its recommendation after holding four meetings, two public information sessions and conducting a parent survey.

Second Phase of Middle School Rezoning

The second middle school attendance zone change will take effect in the 2021-22 school year and coincide with the opening of the replacement Robert E. Aylor Middle School. A rezoning committee will be convened to develop a recommendation to present to the School Board that will impact Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Robert E. Aylor middle schools.
