Frederick County Public Schools will begin the distribution of school bus schedules for the 2017-18 school year on Wednesday, August 2. The bus schedules will be mailed to all students who will attend Frederick County Public Schools this year. The schedules will include the student’s name, the school they attend, the location of their morning and afternoon bus stops, whether they are walkers or non-bus riders, the number of the bus they will ride and the stop times. The stop times are an estimate and are subject to change. Students are encouraged to be at their bus stop approximately 10 minutes prior to the scheduled stop time.

Transportation Director John Grubbs says, “The staff at the transportation department has done an outstanding job this summer developing safe and efficient bus routes, training new bus drivers and inspecting and completing routine maintenance on our buses. Each day school is in session, our buses make more than 750 runs and travel more than 11,500 miles. Over the course of the entire school year, that adds up to more than 2.4 million miles.”

Prior to the end of the 2016-17 school year, parents/guardians were asked to complete a Transportation Form for each of their children for the upcoming school year. Anyone who has not already completed the form is being asked to do so, even if their children do not plan to ride a school bus this year. Copies of the form are available at all Frederick County Public Schools and on the Transportation Department page of the school division’s website.

Grubbs says, “The information collected on the Transportation Form enables us to avoid creating unnecessary stops for students who have alternate transportation plans. Eliminating unnecessary stops helps reduce fuel and mileage costs.”

Information on individual bus routes can be found by clicking the “Find Your School” link on the Frederick County Public Schools’ homepage or the “Bus Routes” link on each individual school’s homepage. The links will open a program which allows an individual to enter any address in Frederick County and determine which schools serve that address as well as information on the school bus stops in the area.

Frederick County Public Schools will open for the 2017-18 school year on Wednesday, August 16.
